Choral Conductor

Libby has worked as a choral conductor since her student days in Cambridge, where she learned conducting technique and directed a number of small ensembles. From there she gained additional experience as Assistant Musical Director of a West End show (Return to the Forbidden Planet) and often assisted in sectional rehearsals during session work as a professional singer.

Her recent return to choral conducting began in 2016 when she founded and directed Tollcross Community Choir, which performed at many local charity events. She was appointed Musical Director of the long established Edinburgh choral society Jubilo in 2016 performing two major concerts with them; a large scale Christmas concert and also Handel’s Israel in Egypt with orchestral support from The Edinburgh Players. Libby has also enjoyed being guest conductor for Cadenza and recently conducted Brahms’ Requiem in a sell-out performance at Greyfriars Kirk.

Libby Crabtree - choral conductor

She directs one-day choral workshops for various choirs and has recently conducted a session for The Sixteen as part of their Choral Pilgrimage programme, singing Palestrina and Poulenc (see video right). Other successes include workshops for the Edinburgh Bach Choir and the Dunedin Consort.

The combination of her infectious enthusiasm, deep understanding of the music and energetic communication, transformed bunch of singers who had never met before, into a concert-worthy choir in no time at all!
“We were all left wanting more. The workshop was so uplifting and inspirational.”
